Peninsula Light Co., a co-operative with 26,000 customers based in
Washington, USA, has spent three years conducting an audit of some 340
commercial and 250 residential meters. Meter errors had been costing the
co-op thousands of dollars each year, which led to the decision to start
with the larger accounts before auditing residential meters.
The audit was conducted by Utility Systems & Applications (US&A).
They had previously been involved with Peninsula Light in completing a
system-wide testing, calibration and resealing program for over 18,000 of
the utility's meters. The recent audit included testing connections and
equipment, performing ratio tests on transformers and checking for meter
tampering.
The audits uncovered installation errors, equipment failures and
incorrect processing of data.
